Reverse Glass Painting of a Noblewoman

Rs. 24,000
Reverse Glass Painting of Noblewoman : Rajputana : c. 1930

Reverse glass painting is originally a European form of art. It traveled to India via the Indo-Chinese trading routes in the 19th century. Artists were often commissioned to paint portraits of members of the royal court. This is one such painting depicting a woman, seated in a red chair holding a pink rose. She is in a richly decorated room that has lush green drapes and floral print flooring. The appearance of her room coupled with the fine gold jewellery she is wearing tells us that this is a woman of high status.

Dimensions : 14.5" x 11"
