Reverse glass painting is originally a European form of art. It traveled to India via the Indo-Chinese trading routes in the 19th century. In India, Gods and Goddess were exteremely popular subjects of reverse glass painting.
This particular painting is of Bahuchara Mata, the Goddess of chastity and fertility. She is worshipped in the Charan community, which is a caste of society that mainly reside in Gujarat and Rajasthan.
