He is disliked by the King’s second wife Suruchi because she wants her son to have the king’s favour. After being chided by Suruchi, a five-year-old Dhruva goes to the forest to pray and seek the Lord’s blessing and advice. Nothing sways the young boy's path as he recites the sacred mantra "Om Namo Bhagavate Vasudevaya" repeatedly. Dhruva's determination knows no bounds and the lord, immensely pleased with the boy's austerity, appears before him and grants him a boon. Dhruva, who is only filled with thoughts of Vishnu, seeks a simple boon that he will forever hold Lord Vishnu in his heart.
