Black Clay Grain Pot
Straight from the heart of Kutch, Gujarat this pot is made out of Black clay and is painted white. This clay is dug up from the seabed during the new moon. The salty sea water makes the black clay durable and gives it that rich grey or black colour.
These earthenware pots were of functional use as kitchen storage, carrying things like rice grains or lentils in many households of Gujurat. The pots are a fine example of Gujurati clay work and remind us of a simpler time before polymers and metal.
